JetBlue’s Transatlantic Expansion Continues in 2024

JetBlue has long been rooted domestically, but the winds of change are blowing. In fall 2021, the airline made an inaugural flight into London, marking its foray into the European market. Not long after, the airline continued its transatlantic expansion with Paris and Amsterdam. And now JetBlue will fly nonstop from BOS and JFK to Dublin beginning March 13, 2024 and JFK to Edinburgh starting May 22, 2024.

With today’s announcement, JetBlue’s presence will soon include six European destinations:

  • Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS)
  • Dublin, Ireland (DUB)
  • Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI)
  • London-Gatwick, U.K. (LGW)
  • London-Heathrow, U.K. (LHR)
  • Paris, France (CDG)

Two New Routes Are Seasonal, Paris Service Is Year-Round

Before you run to plan your holiday vacation, know that JetBlue’s new routes to Ireland and Scotland are seasonal. Edinburgh and Dublin flights are scheduled to operate through September 30, 2023. Additionally, routes don’t begin flying to Dublin until March 13, 2024 and to Edinburgh May 22, 2024.

Flights to Paris, however, will be year-round. Service on these new routes are slated to begin April 3, 2024 from Boston and June 20, 2024 from New York.

Using JetBlue TrueBlue Points

TrueBlue, the loyalty program of JetBlue, is one of the simpler options to use. And while simplicity is a clear advantage, it often comes at the cost of potential value because the points price is tied to the cash cost of the ticket. These new routes, however, seem to be an exception. In fact, economy-class tickets can be found for as low as 42,800 miles round trip.

Pro Tip

When booking European flights with TrueBlue points, look at booking an entire week to get the lowest pricing.

Not many airlines offer economy-class flights to Europe for under 30,000 miles, so this is a decent deal. That being said, airlines like Iberia and Virgin Atlantic fly to Europe for under 20,000 miles, and the taxes and fees are roughly the same—and sometimes better, so compare prices if you have points in other programs.

Remember with JetBlue you will have to book a separate flight to get to JFK or BOS if those are not your original gateway cities, which may make other options cheaper in total.

Earning JetBlue Points

TrueBlue members have loads of options for earning points but the quickest way is through credit card spending. Both co-branded and transferable currency credit cards can provide an easy means to accumulate TrueBlue points.

Co-Branded Credit Cards

  • JetBlue Card*: This card comes with a welcome offer of 10,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days. It earns 3 points per dollar on JetBlue purchases, 2 points per dollar at restaurants and grocery stores and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases and has $0 annual fee.
  • JetBlue Plus Card*: New card members get 50,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases and paying the annual fee in full, both within the first 90 days. The card earns 6 points per dollar on eligible JetBlue purchases, 2 points per dollar at restaurants and eligible grocery stores and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases and an annual fee of $99.
  • JetBlue Business Card*: Small business owners can enjoy a welcome offer of 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases and an additional 10,000 bonus points when a purchase is made on an employee card, both in the first 90 days and earn 6 points per dollar on JetBlue purchases, 2 points per dollar at restaurants and office supply stores and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. It comes with an annual fee of $99.

Transferable Currency Cards

JetBlue partners with American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards® and Citi ThankYou Points. Eligible cardholders can convert their points from these bank programs to TrueBlue points. Transfer times are instant.

Rates will vary by issuer and by card. For example, the Citi Prestige® Card*, AT&T Access More and Citi Premier® Card (no longer open to new applications) will get a transfer rate of 1:1, but all other ThankYou Points cards will receive a rate of 1,000:800.

Amex cardholders with Membership Rewards-earning cards like the American Express® Gold Card can transfer their points at a rate of 250:200. However, keep an eye out for transfer bonuses as they happen regularly (Terms apply, see rates & fees).

Eligible credit cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards, for example the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, may transfer points to TrueBlue at a rate of 1:1.

Bottom Line

JetBlue’s increased venture into the European market in 2024 is an overall win as it gives customers more options and ultimately leads to more competitive pricing across markets.

Just make sure to plan accordingly, as JetBlue’s new Ireland and Scotland routes are seasonal. Flights to Paris, however, are year-round, so those departing from Boston or New York can practice their French any time.
